But the moment you let a ball bounce that you could have volleyed, you just gave your opponent a gift: an extra half second to recover.
Why the Pros prioritize the volley:

It’s about Time Theft.
By meeting the ball out in front, you cut the distance the ball has to travel. This forces your opponent to react before they’re balanced. It catches them mid step or mid shift, leading to that "deadly" pop up we’re all looking for.
