Pro pickleball coach Dominic Catalano pulls from his days as a professional baseball player to teach a new drill for pickleball, the line of sight drill. Do you wonder how high level players always seem to catch you in the right spot? It’s because they’re watching you and not just watching the ball. This gives them the awareness to take advantage of your positioning when the opportunity arises. When you have a dead ball or a high ball, the goal is to get into a good position to see your paddle, the ball and your opponent at the same time. If the person is shifting to the middle you can go line, if they’re shifting to the line, you can go middle, if they’re sitting heavy backhand you can speedup to their forehand or vice versa. On the flip side Coach Maria explains how you can take advantage of players who aren’t using the information in front of them because they are only watching the ball and not your movements.
