Coach Susannah Barr and visiting pro Nick Wade take you inside a real, unscripted drill session: a full-pace hands battle where nobody is cooperating. Higher level players seem to have incredibly fast hands, and that's because they aren't just trading friendly volleys. They drill hands battles at full speed and try to beat each other. This one is raw and unfiltered, a little sweaty, and shows exactly what it looks like when two pros get after it.
✅ How the hands battle works:
• Stand 14 feet apart
• Start every rep with a dead dink, just like you'll see in a real match
• Your opponent speeds it up right at you, and you engage in the hands battle
• It's not cooperative: you're both trying to win, and one of you comes out on top
• Feed a fresh dead ball and go again, round after round
• Then switch it up: skip the dink and go straight into volleys out of the air
• The goal: more hand speed, more confidence, and more hands battles won
