I recap a rare week where the pro pickleball field was split between Brisbane, Australia and Virginia Beach, creating new champions, new partnerships, and plenty of controversy. In Australia, I cover the 1,500-point Cup at Pat Rafter Arena, highlight a men’s doubles run featuring Christian Alshon and an unlikely partner, break down a key rally from JW Johnson and Tama Shimabukuro vs the Shock Boys, and review results across mixed, women’s doubles, and singles (including upsets and how conditions/ball choice affected outcomes). In Virginia Beach, I react to the “water for contracted players only” signage, multiple new-team storylines, a match-altering Owl AI overturn in mixed that helped decide a 12–10 finish, and key title runs in women’s doubles and singles, plus Lea Jansen’s injury/possible final event and backlash around Franklin’s Malaysia VIP event.
