I break down the confusion around pickleball’s unwritten rules—many of which have changed over my 13 years playing by listing nearly 100 and organizing them into six categories: line calls, competitive/tournament play, pro scene etiquette, pro-fan interaction, rec play, court etiquette, and equipment etiquette. I share which norms I agree with (like calling unsure balls in, replaying points in rec, not calling bait, not coaching unless asked, and closing gates) and which I think should change (like never overruling your partner on line calls and being quiet during points). I also cover partner-dropping realities on tour, boundaries for fans, body-bag norms, and common rec-play frustrations like icing out stronger players, not bringing balls, and calling a paddle a “racket.”
