The UPA-A just released their first ever rulebook for MLP and PPA, and there are some changes that are going to turn heads. I break down everything you need to know before it goes into effect on May 22nd. The biggest shift is the serve rule. Any motion that can't be confirmed as legal with certainty by visual observation is now a fault and I think players like Eric Oncins, Chris Haworth, and Tyson McGuffin are going to have to pretty drastically change their service motions because of it. Beyond the serve, I cover the changes I actually love — like switching ends at 6, dropping down to one timeout per game, allowing coaching between points, and giving players the ability to remove a referee for cause without needing all four players to agree.
And yes — Eric Oncins can no longer blow the ball over the net. I think that's a tragedy. If you watch pro pickleball or play in amateur UPA events, this one is worth your time.
