Recently, Zane's travels took him to the heart of the Midwest then tossed him into the hustle and bustle of New York City, offering pickleball fans a glimpse into the life of a professional player. From meeting fans and participating in exhibitions to a thrilling Major League Pickleball weekend, Navratil’s trips to Chicago and New York were nothing short of eventful.
Upon landing in Chicago, Zane made his way to the iconic Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, where he participated in a rooftop pickleball exhibition with fellow pro Jack Munro. The energy was lighthearted, with plenty of banter between Zane and Jack. They even joked about Munro’s upcoming first pitch at a Cubs game, which, despite nerves, Jack delivered flawlessly.
From Chicago, Navratil jetted off to New York City, where his schedule was equally packed. His first stop? Gary Vaynerchuk’s office at 10 Hudson Yards. As a key player on GaryVee’s New Jersey 5s, Zane met with Gary and GM Ryan Harwood for a podcast interview.
Zane’s real mission in New York culminated in a series of critical matches for the New Jersey 5s. Their first test came against the Columbus Sliders, and Zane, alongside his partner Will How, delivered a clutch performance, securing a crucial victory with some heart-stopping rallies.
The NJ 5s continued their strong showing, next facing the Carolina Pickleball Club. Despite some personal rivalry between Zane and Carolina’s Colin Johns, the 5s battled through to a win in a thrilling dreambreaker. Navratil’s final point—an inside-out winner—was a defining moment, propelling the team to victory and maintaining their momentum.
The pinnacle of the weekend came against the New York Hustlers. The 5s dominated, securing a perfect 4-0 win. The victory was especially meaningful as it earned the team more points in the league standings, crucial to the playoffs.
In their final match against the Utah Black Diamonds, the 5s once again showcased their dominance, with the women’s doubles team delivering the biggest blowout in Major League Pickleball history, winning 25-7. Zane and his partner followed suit, cruising to victory and clinching the New Jersey 5s’ position as the top team in the league standings.
