From the Australia Zoo, I break down why screaming in pickleball has become so polarizing and why it’s really a fight over what the sport is and who it’s for—older, tennis-rooted fans versus newer, younger fans who value emotion and competition. I discuss whether there’s a gender double standard (arguing it’s more about style—trash talk vs screaming), why I think pros should be allowed to scream and even taunt, and why “public opinion” is a better penalty than point-based enforcement. Using my own MLP Dallas outburst and the Genie Bouchard vs Maria Ford match as examples, I critique Jim Claus’s proposed UPA anti-taunting rule as unenforceable and counterproductive, arguing that villains, drama, and rivalries drive attention and growth more than etiquette.
