Kate Fahey: St. Louis Shock, Life Outside of Pickleball

Kate Fahey is one of the more interesting newer names in professional pickleball because of how quickly she transitioned into the sport. A former elite tennis player at the University of Michigan, where she was a three-time All-American and two-time Big Ten Player of the Year, Fahey briefly pursued professional tennis before wrist injuries changed her path. She later worked as a digital product manager at American Express, where a coworker introduced her to pickleball. She became competitive almost immediately, turned pro in 2023, and eventually left her corporate career to pursue pickleball full-time.

Her tennis background clearly gave her a strong foundation, but Fahey has developed into a particularly accomplished singles player, while also competing in doubles and mixed. She has earned multiple PPA titles and has been recognized as one of the top women's singles players on tour. She's also known for being highly emotional and vocal during matches, something she has openly discussed as part of her competitive personality and mental-performance work. That combination—elite tennis background, an unusually rapid transition into pickleball, and a very expressive competitive style—makes her an interesting player to study beyond simply her results.
